Tales from Near and Far

Book Design, Layout, and Illustration

In this project, I worked with a team to create a collection of folktales presented as a bound children’s book. In addition to a bound collection, we also created individual booklets. For my tale, I chose A Tale of Two Frogs, a traditional Japanese tale. I was taken with the characters of the frogs and the beauty of Japanese ink illustrations. For my illustrations, I started with watercolor and scanned those images. I edited and layered the watercolor paintings in Adobe Photoshop. As a team, we determined a cohesive layout for the booklets and chose a flexible typeface. We also created a fictional publishing house and I designed the logo for our group.
